Frequently asked questions

How do you respond to "My body, my choice"?

Firstly I would absolutely agree that bodily autonomy is very important. However the point when bodily autonomy ends is when it causes direct harm to somebody else. For example, if a woman used her body to physically harm her two year old child, that would not be permissible under the argument of bodily autonomy. Since abortion causes direct, lethal harm to an innocent unborn child, having an abortion is not permissible under the argument of bodily autonomy. It's also important to note that an unborn child is not part of their mother's body.

What if the child would live in poverty?

The argument that we should kill our unborn children so that they don't have to live in poverty is fake compassion. Imagine that the parents of a two year old child suddenly became homeless, would the compassionate thing to do be killing the two year old, so as to keep them from having to live in poverty? Of course not. No matter how hard their life may be, the worst thing that you could ever do to a child would be to kill them.

How can you justify sending a child into foster care?

Well I would agree that the foster care system could use deep fundamental improvements, I do not believe that death is a better option. If a two year old child was removed from their parent's care and placed into foster care, we wouldn't look onto that situation and think 'That poor child is in foster care, we should kill him so he doesn't have to live like that'. We would look onto that situation with compassion and do what we can to support that child and his parents. Well I believe that every child should live in a loving family with a Mother and Father, I don't think the lack thereof can justify killing the child. While foster care may not be an ideal situation, the worst thing you could ever do for a child would be to kill them.

Shouldn't abortion be allowed in cases of sexual assault?

Sexual assault is one the the most horrific crimes ever. If a woman becomes pregnant as a result of sexual assault, we should be doing all we can to support the mother and ensure she is looked after. But killing her unborn child will never take away the trauma from the assault. Killing the mother's unborn child will only add to the trauma. No matter how hard the situations we may face, killing an infant is never justified. We don't even give the death sentence to rapists, so why should we give the death sentence to the victim's unborn child?

What if the life of the mother's life is in risk?

It can be a very difficult and overwhelming situation when a mother is told that continuing her pregnancy could put her own life at risk. However Abortion is not the only means of ending a pregnancy. It is important to clarify between abortion and just any case when the pregnancy is ended. Many OB/GYNs have openly stated that abortion is never necessary to save the life of the mother. In some extreme cases, the baby can be delivered prematurely, in which case they will receive proper medical care to ensure their chance at survival. Now, even if there were a case when a doctor genuinely believes that abortion is the only possible means of avoiding maternal death, A doctor should never intentionally end the life of one patient to prolong the life of another. (Please note that this is an incredibly unlikely scenario.) It's also important to note that certain doctors opt to advise abortion simply out of convenance, or to save the cost of caring for a premature baby.

What if you're wrong about life beginning at conception?

Almost every Scientific textbook, including those published by Cambridge, concur that at the point that the male and female gametes fuse, a new human life begins. However many people, for the sake of the argument, refuse to acknowledge this scientific fact. Therefore it may be necessary to work around this fact and meet them where they are with with an analogy. My favorite one is: Imagine that you took your son on a hunting trip. After you lose your son, your hear a rustling in a bush Infront of you. Now you don't know for a fact that what's in that bush is a human being, however you don't know for a fact that it isn't. Can you shoot into the bush even if there's the slightest chance it could harm your son? Likewise, if you are not sure that what's in your womb is a human being, would you even consider doing something that you know would kill it?
